    hola, ya'll

I hail from SW Ohio -- originally from Northern CA. I used to camp under lean-to's in the Sierra's when I was a kid and teen. Ohio camping is quite different, (tarps, bug nets and water filtration still seem like "extra" gear to me, even though it's been 30 years since my last Sierra outing -- yep, another old newbie here) but I'm planning on trying out hangs in a variety of states.

I've been lurking for about a couple of weeks, and haven't pulled the trigger on a "proper" hammock yet, but somehow I've already spent myself into the poor house on gear?!?

Already got some great tips from here, and really enjoyed watching the videos posted by grizzly adams/professor hammock and shug.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hola, Esteban! I used to live in Huber Heights when it was new. Welcome. Let us in on your selections and experiences as they come. BTW that was about 7% of my lingo. =) Have fun!

Welcome from SC. I always tell newbies to find a group hang in their area. Might be hard now that it is hot. Group hangs are great for meeting people and checking out different gear.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

Thank you for the welcome everybody. After a crazy amount of research and a couple of late nights fretting about pulling the trigger, I'm anxiously awaiting on my gear.

It took quite a bit of effort to balance quality and low cost. I searched for days for quality used gear, but always just missed grabbing what I wanted when an item was posted.

I pieced together my gear from warbonnet, wilderness logics, and whoopieslings.com. I got some good deals, and from reading other's reviews, I have some quality products.
