    Hennessy Asym Exp. review.

Well, after breaking in my HH Asym Exp. and along with the rest of the household we have to say that it does get a thumbs up. Buying a 'system' instead of putting together a hammock, tarp, suspension and bug netting was a good way to start off. They are well designed and work well.

Like many, I have upgraded to another Tarp. Have the new JRB Universal Tarp for colder weather use and for my son to use with his gear. (Darn big thing has lots of tie-off's: nice.) I use the standard tarp from the HH in mild weather. An tarp upgrade at time of purchase may have been wise.

Have Woopie Strings on my sons (non HH) and DIY bug netting and it works fine, but having a pre-made system like the HH does have some advantages.

Purchased the HH directly from Hennessy and the service was good. About the only downfall for me (and it could have been a deal breaker) is the darn thing was made in China. Deal is done and no complaints or regrets, but will look for a non 'made in china' hammock next time.

any problems with using a different companies tarp with the HH? Is it harder, or do you simply use a another ridge line for the fly?

I use a separate ridge line with my stock tarp. It allows me to keep the tarp closer to the hammock and eliminate the sagging that happens when I get in. I've also used another tarp with the hammock, and it works fine. But it's a big tarp. The only way I could imagine a 3rd party tarp being an issue would be if it was an extremely minimalist tarp that didn't take the Hennessy's asymmetrical shape into account, but if a small tarp is your goal, there's probably no reason not to stick with the stock tarp. I don't know of any reason why a larger tarp would give you a problem apart from the increased space you might need to set it up.
