Hey HF,
I've been lurking on this site for quite awhile, and figured it was time to say Hi!
About me:
Interests: bushcraft/hiking/mt biking/ general outdoors/fishing/hunting
I've had a couple different hammocks (hennessy/GTUL) over the last four yrs, but never spent much time learning how to hang them etc. I was pretty comfortable in the Rookies mts being a ground dweller. Also because I'm a side/stomach spinning sleeper, I was hesitate to really learn hammocks. Well now I'm located in swampy SC, and have been somewhat reintroduced into hammock camping. I can say I've really enjoyed the benefits of being above the ground, and also found it quite comfortable hanging with some instruction on rigging. So I believe I'm hooked.
My current hammocks rigs are:
Summer-
Mosquito Jungle Hammock and Fly with whoopie slings and homemade hugger straps
I use a thermorest Zlite for support/bug resistance, and a USGI Poncho as a blanket. This coupled with a small pillow, and maybe some thermals seems like quite enough protection for me to sleep comfortably in 50F+
Winter-
I'm playing around with a lighter/smaller yukon outfitter double hammock with whoopie slings, and a 7x9 sil nylon tarp, I'd like to build this rig more geared to cooler weather with an UQ.
Goals:
I see the benefits of lightweight gear for travel, but am not completely hooked on extreme UL, and prices associated with it. I try to keep a good balance of toughness in my gear, but the lighter, and cheaper the better!
Hope to learn some more on hanging/ rigging, DIY and repairing gear. First project: bug netting repair.. found mine has quite a large hole in it..
Thanks,
JTD
