It's a lot of money to reverse engineer something.

I've been studying theses things for a while now... and although I know I won't be able to reproduce it exactly, perhaps not even close, but I'll get another cool hammock out of the deal.

Then, of course, IU have to head up on the mountain to test it.
I make gear... lots and lots of gear.

Which mountain? I used to live in Tucson.

well I bought a Clark NX250 with the Zliner and absolutely love it. I've been testing it on my front porch now for several weeks. What I enjoy about the clark is that it is warm. The temps have been ranging from the 60s to upper 40s at night. I enclose the top and sleep with a light weight polar fleece blanket. No problems. quite comfortable. As for weight, I plan on using it from a boat. In other words island camping etc in the national forests where dispersed camping is allowed. So I don't care about the weight or bulk, but its really not that heavy even the underquilt set up is really not to bulky at all. What I do know is that with this system everything is integrated and put together for me. I don't have time to do allot of DIY although im capable. After an 60 hour week or more, all I want to do is get in the boat shut off the work world and fish/camp. Lots of luck on your project. Patience and a positive attitude will carry it through.

I just passed through Tigerton last week.. had to drive up to Ashland. If it wasn't a "work trip" I would have taken my kayak up and spent a couple nights around the Turtle Flambeau. Where do you go?

    McMurphy,
As for the Clark clone's Z-Liner underquilt, are you making it out of Insultex? What temperatures are you trying to reach down to?

spoonmaker, do you have any tips with the under pockets? Are they just sewn to the hammock like a full rectangle with baffles? Or is it two pieces of material that are only sewn to the sides of the hammock? EG

So that represents the baffles and the ends sewn through the hammock. Is that the way they do it?

Or is it just sewn on to a piece of material that cam be sewn on to the hammock? IE (looking at hammock from side)

---------------------------- Middle layer connecting the pockets to the hammock, only via the side though.
\___/\___/\___/\___/ So the pockets are sewn to the middle layer as though making sew through baffles, but then rather then sewing through the hammock, you just sew the bottom section (two bottom materials) to the side of the hammock, therefore keeping the integrity of the hammock body itself. I would put shot chord on the ends, to keep it taught around the hammock.

    What does Clark do?

    Cheers Mate.

Stink, the pictures didn't turn out at all like I was wanting. Hope they make sense.

heres a link that will help you with the pockets-- https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...arkish+pockets several years ago I tried this with a bridge hammock---its a good design and worked pretty well!

Good luck with the project. I definitely think you should have the hammock you're attempting to clone - it will be hard to clone something you don't actually have.
Amen!!! oh... and they are overpriced like the hummers....
