do you love your gear TOO much?

    Okay....

I've only had my Maccat Deluxe for a few months so "we" are still in the honeymoon phase...

Anyway- I lent it to a friend for an overnighter......two weeks ago.....got it back today......not really a problem...I had nothing planned....

I have to admit I was thinking about it (I need a name "it" sounds cheap) almost everday...and when I got it back.....after my friend left....

I took it out of the bag and we hugged.....

Do I love my gear too much????

No way! You can never love it too much. It keeps you warm, safe, and dry. Nothing wrong with that.

had a custom qajak made by a guy in Connecticut

paid the money, waited months, drove up to see her glistening in the sun. talked with the builder in his shed and noticed another one just like mine but one that had obviously spent the winter outside in the elements. I asked him about that treatment-he responded 'it's just a boat'.
For me it's not the gear but the stories each piece can tell. So I don't mind scratches/dings. I do mind greatly when I loose a piece.

Shiny new gear...that's lust. Old stuff that you've trusted, thats love...agape. That's why a boat is a "she" and you come to know her creaks and groans in weather. Started a relationship with a Svea 123 in 1969 while hitch hiking in Europe. Sure, she's tried to burn me a couple times, blew her pressure valve in a fit once and like my dog, she's got gas, but that Swedish model is still first in my bag at night and after all these years, makes pretty good coffee. That's love.

There is no shame in loving your gear. Examples:

    1) I love my Catalyst so much that I not only slept snuggled up with it the first night I got it, I also gave it a name. I named her Cindy, after my first ex-wife. She was always on my back, too.

    2) I loaned my SnugFit to another forum member recently so he could experience an underquilt without having to buy one. I miss it terribly and can't wait to have it back. Call it separation anxiety if you will.

Nothing like the roar of a SVEA 123 in the morning as that jet taxis down the warmup tarmac to do battle with the day.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
