Newbie question - Need some help on how to adjust a ridgeline

I'm setting up my hammock (9' walmart gathered-end hammock just to get started). I wanted to try hammocks after many years on the ground.

I've replaced the original gathering ropes with homemade whoopie slings from 7/64 Amsteel Blue

I've got 1" poly webbing and will use carbon fiber to connect the straps to whoopies with a marlin spike?

Now I need to set up my Ridgeline for the first time.

I have 1.9mm tech line (lots). I need to make the ridgeline adjustable until I figure out how to get the proper lay.

I've read that I need to start with 83% of hammock length, so now I just need to figure out how to make it adjustable.

I haven't seen a thread yet on this, but there are soooo many threads.

Look up UCR...there are a bunch of videos that will show you how to make one...

You can also make an adjustable structural ridgeline in the same manner as you made your whoopie sling. The main difference is there is a much greater distance from the fixed eye to the adjustable bury. This also means the adjustable loop itself is smaller. About 2 feet of adjustability (4 foot adjustable loop) should be enough (83% +/- a foot).

Thanks Bubba. Sounds like there's not much room for error on the whoopie version. Good thing I have LOTS of tech line. I didn't know if you could make a whoopie sling from tech line since it's so much smaller diameter than Amsteel (or should I use Amsteel for this?....cuz I'm fresh out of Amsteel.

You can definitely use tech line, it's plenty strong enough. Just a little tougher to splice. The benefit of the UCR over the whoopie ( either will work fine ) is the amount of cordage you will use. The UCR allows you to use less. If you have a bunch, it's probably not an issue. However, the more you use, the more the total package will weigh.... Still not a big issue...

The tech line I've seen is spliceable but it is so small it can be challenging. Adjustability is for finding your preferred sag. To that end you could simple make an end loop on one end of the the line and use the truckers hitch on the other to make adjustments in length. When you find the length you want you can measure it and then make a RL with two simple end loops.

Have pitty on a noob, but here's a question which popped into my head: Are: Amsteel, Tech Line, and UCR all different types of line? Or is there more to it than that? The definition of UCR is Utility Constrictor Rope, which would seem to be the same thing or similar to Amsteel and Tech line (or maybe they are types of UCR)? Is a whoopie is a type of UCR or made from UCR? You might see my confusion (or maybe only I see it)

I believe it's the type of constriction. If you watch the video FJRPilot linked it shows them.
UCR is using a seperate line for constriction VS Whoopie spices into self?
