no$ for UQ! has this been attempted yet..?.

    okay guys...

here is what I was thinking:

    I have a dbl WBBB....I also have a 72"x20" BAIC

I was thinking of using my thermarest chairkit sleeve ( it's a full length sleeve, older style)...and attaching some sort of suspension to hang it under the hammock (not b/t the layers)....with just enough air to insulate, but still be flimsy enough to form around me. maybe combine with an spe?

My thinking is it would be more comfortable then having it b/t the layers....

ALSO----if it sounds doable...can it be rigged or suspended "ASYM"...so that the foot would truly be under the footbox?????????

The benefits of course would be I would get my insulation and chairkit out of the same ounces.............

    thoughts????

If you have a double layer, why not put it in the pad pocket like it's designed for?

I've tried the pocket.....inevitably it slides around.....

By the time I'm comfortably on the diag, the pad is slung end to end in the hammock and the only thing that's insulated is my torso as my body cuts across the middle....

I was thinking of super lightweight sleeve that hangs under the hammock end to end ....with a sleeve sewn into it on the diagonal....

my mother-in-law is in town September (seamtress )....gonna ask her for some lessons..

    ANother thought....

If it is hung under the hammock vs the pocket....I am hoping I could use less air in the pad so it conforms better without compressing it...

I think if it was in the pocket I would have to use more air, IMHO that tends to make the hammock a less comfortable.

Why would you need more air in the pocket to make it comfortable?

I haven't used a thermarest in the pocket yet, so this is an honest question. I will be experimenting with a NeoAir if it ever arrives, myself. I'm probably going to layer the mattress under a Gossamer Gear wide evazote.

Have you tried the trick people use with foam pads - silicon (seam sealer) dotted on the bottom?

I tried my therma rest pad in my doublelayer pocket and on top with me, geeez, its not right..for me at least. your ba is slippery too if you put it up against the fabric. Mine slid everywhere, was noisy, and air went where I didnt want it and lost insul value..cold butt syndrome...the little ccf pad sticks in the pocket nicely, with just a wee bit o' wrestling and planning, ccf for me, and uq for cold temps. thats in the plans. ccf is cheap (my favorite word) pretty indestructable, versatile as a sit-pad, sign, and running thru the woods like a big blue winged bird.

**sasquatches are deathly afraid of giant blue-winged birds. and since I started doing this, I haven't seen one sasquatch, or yeti.

    Chair Kit insulation

You could get some shock cord and sew some additional webbing loops onto your chair kit. Then you would attach the sides of your chair kit to the lateral pull outs on the WBBB. The shock cord would allow you to fine tune its postion underneath. It can be done. Just need shock cord and extra webbing loops.

[QUOTE=lori;132918]Why would you need more air in the pocket to make it comfortable?

I wasn't thinking more air for comfort. My thinking was if it was b/t the layers it would be subject to more compression....more air needed to avoid cold spots from compression......

My first choice for comfort is to enjoy the unpolluted natural hang of the hammock fabric, with as little bumps and ridges as possible.....

Shock cord sounds like the easiest for give and adjustments....can't wait to experiment.

As for your unpolluted hang, the uq is the way to go. String it on and climb in. As for the air pad, you are going have a difficult time getting it to stay put, and not allow to much of an air gap. Elastic, nylon and tension of your body make a great slingshot. IN MY OPINION. I tried one of my chair-style pads, inside the hammock, it would work, but mine have metal rods for support as a chair and I don't want to wreck the chair, as of yet. Pads are just another way to insulate your tush, thats all. And its other camp use, sasquatch deterrent, etc.
UQ's are the warmest and best way to insulate you from the bottom side.
