FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black

I'd hand wash it in the tub. Small amount of cleanser, scrub any spots and give it a good rinse, hang to dry.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!
I plan to try 2ply's method for washing mine. A washing machine would make a mess if the suspension triangles were not removed, but by hand that should not be a big issue.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.
