    Salt Lake City

Hey guys, I'm in SLC for an undermined amount of time burning all of my terminal leave and waiting for my next job to open up. Can anyone give me advice on some good hikes around SLC?

I just retired from the military and moved back to the states from Guam and I'm ready to hike!! I don't have my hammock because it I stored with my household goods in California, but hiking I can do

Lake Blanche, desolation lake, twin falls, mount olympus. There are numerous hikes in big and cottonwood canyon. if you have a car and a few days. Travel 4 hours south to Moab. for $10 you get a 7 day pass to arches, and plenty of trails, so be it hot desert trails. I personally like big and little cottonwood and being 15 minutes from the city is great for day trips.

Welcome back brother and thank you for your service.

Dude, there are so many good hikes here.
Real close to the city you should check out the following: In Little Cotton Wood Canyon: Red Pine Lake, Sunset Peak, Cecret lake
Near Big Cotton Wood Canyon: Desolation Lake, Lake Blanche, Twin lakes, Mount Olympus, Bells Canyon, Mineral Fork, Willow Heights, Bloods Lake, Claytons Peak
Millcreek Canyon: Gobblers Knob, Murdock Pass, Dog Lake, Desolation Trail, Pipeline Trail, lambs canyon.
    Neffs Canyon
    The living room
    That should get you started.

If you want to go real wilderness then try and get out into the High Uintas! So much more out there, and the hiking is a lot easier because the trails all start at high elevation.
