New to this hanging is this normal?

I recently got an eno dn hammock, using the eno slap straps and been trying to hang in my backyard between two trees which span 20' apart. Seems every time I hang I'm forced to cross my legs as that's is the only way to be semi comfortable. Also doesn't feel like I can get a flat lie in the dn. I used the hammock calculator and entered in all the info to get recommended measurements. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

Can you get more diagonal? And, is the length of the hammock after hanging about 83% of the stretched out length. That would be the length of the ridgeline if you had one.

Im a bit rusty and haven't posted in awhile but isn't 20 feet a bit far for a good lay?
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

Try a small pillow, jacket, etc under your right knee. More diagonal, and vary your position along long axis. Also often helps if head end is lower than feet end.

It just forces you to raise the tree straps to get close to a 30° hang angle if you're not using a SRL.

How wide and long is the hammock? How tall are you?

Aren't ENOs made with the edges pulled tight where the hammock is somewhat canoe shaped?

But even real long and wide gathered end hammocks can squeeze some. I keep a small pillow in my full time hammock to tuck under my knees. Helps some.

also when I think the feet end is high enough, I raise it another few inches.

Well I broke down and spend some $ and time on building a turtle dog stand this afternoon. With main ridge line on the TD being 10.3fy and adding a pillow I have lots more of a flat lie as well as more space for my feet! I'm sure the comfort will come even more as I tweak and learn on this site!

I can't speak from experience, but I think if you connect it properly, it should be fine.

If you're new to hammocks, it will take awhile just to get used to using a hammock. That has been my experience so far.
