I am fortunate enough to live about a 45 minute drive from Dream Hammock HQ and today I had the privilege of visiting Mama & Papa Smurf. They spent about an hour showing me a few hammocks and I got to lay in a couple of Thunderbirds & Dangerbirds. Even got to lay in one that Papa Smurf made for himself. They also showed me their array of fabrics and a few under quilts from HG, JRB & UGQ they have on hand. All were high quality quilts but I was especially impressed by the UGQ quilt. There's nothing like being able to compare things side-by-side. Papa Smurf was even kind enough to give me a quick demo on how to splice Lash-It & Amsteel.
I am very impressed with the quality of their work and am very thankful that they took the time for me today. I was undecided on what fabric I wanted and needed to see if a 10' hammock would work for me (11' for this 6' guy for sure). I was leaning towards a single-layer T-Bird in 1.0 ACU Camo Ripstop Nylon for its light weight but was considering the 1.8 Purple Taffeta because, well, its purple and I love purple. Really, really liked the feel of the 1.8 Taffeta so I silenced the gram weanie in my head and chose blissful comfort over weight savings. In 3-4 weeks I will have the perfect hammock for me.
Thank you Mama & Papa Smurf!
