Smile My Wife is Getting Worried !!

We decided to buy a pop-up trailer last July and spend more time camping with our daughters (12 & 14 yrs). We tent camped a few times a year for several years but the girls were starting to complain about that. The pop-up has been great for family camping.

In early April, I was looking at buying some stuff for camping and said to my wife, "I'm thinking about getting a hammock." She smiled and said "just a sec". She came back downstairs with a TTTM double hammock and bug net...thinking it would be nice to set up on our site when staying in the trailer. I was very surprised because we hadn't even discussed a hammock before. She saw it at Costco a few days earlier and bought it on a whim.

Well....at first I was concerned because it wasn't the hammock I was looking at on the internet but after some research, I realized it wasn't a bad hammock after all. Then, I read about mods. I quickly purchased some 1/8 Amsteel and replaced gathered end loops, made a whoopee sling for each end, and another for a ridge line. Then I bought some Hennessey Snakeskins.

Two weekends ago my family could not come camping due to other commitments. The weather was to be well below seasonal ... dropping to the high 40s. I rigged up an UQ with a sleeping bag, zip ties, and bungee cords...grabbed the TTTM diamond tarp I just purchased...packed my car and off I went. I stayed that night at beautiful Killbear Park in Ontario, Canada and had a GREAT time.

Now, after my wife nicely spent only $100, I am ordering the Warbonnet Superfly multi cam, parts for the pole mod, Nemo Fillo pillow, and am trying to decide which UQ to buy to replace my hack job.

Oh..an I learned what a carabiner is ...lol.

I still enjoy camping with the family but certainly enjoy the time alone with very quick set-up. Once I have the WB SF, I will be able to extend my stays to "bad" weather and beyond early fall.

My wife is questioning her decision to buy me a hammock...but was going to happen to anyhow!!!

Thanks HammockForums for such a fantastic, educational site with the best people in the world!! ... very glad to join this community.

Is backpack backcountry camping next? If so, I will need to spend even more money replacing heavy gear with light stuff. I'm going broke trying to live homeless!!!

It's one of those dangerous Super Bugs that will infect more and more people...but it's one we shouldn't try to stop.

Yup. That's pretty much how it works.

It gets worse. Soon you'll want hammocks for the rest of the family, and then you'll need a family stand which defies the laws of physics to hang the whole family.

welcome to the madness. I got the wife a hammock first as I realized if she liked it then I could get one for myself. Once she got in her's she said this is so soft and comfortable, can we take it on our next camping trip, I knew she was hooked. I am just glad she does not like pink camo.

Be sure to go ahead and get your daughters hammocks while you are at it.

Or better yet, have them help you make theirs.
