Haha! If my liver goes out, it won't be because it was squeezed by my hammock.

I'm pretty sure it's satirical. It's a little hard to tell since our sensibilities have changed so much, but I don't think they were sincere when they talked about Central Americans laying in their hammocks all day, with only short breaks to get up and start revolutions. It makes me wonder, if someone in the year 2140 watches the Colbert Report, will they get the joke or just think we were all ridiculous?

LOL i just thought of this.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp_l5ntikaU

what do we do with witches?

    -burn them

What do we burn apart from witches?

    -more witches!

    -wood

    Why do witches burn?

    -because they're made of wood

Exactly. So how do we tell if she's made of wood

-build a bridge out of her

Ah, but can you not also build bridges out of stone?

    -oh yeah

    Does wood sink in water

    -no it floats

    What also floats in water

-apples, spiders, rocks, churches! Churches! lead! lead!

    -a duck!

    Good!

-so if she weighs the same as a duck, then she's made of wood, and therefore a witch.

Yet just another reason to understand the difference between correlation and, cause and effect. I wonder what kinds of misinformed statements we are throwing around now, that someone will chuckle over 100+ years from now. No, wait, I can think of many!

That is hilarious and I'm pretty sure it was meant to be same in 1881.
