So I have pretty much completed a 12'x9' Winter Tarp. All I have left to do is attach the 8 bug mesh guyline pockets and do my waterproofing.
I am planning on mixing a batch of 100% Silicone and mineral spirits in a 1:3.75 ratio, which I will mix the heck out of in a 5 gallon bucket, then dunk the entire tarp.
Once this has dried, I plan on going over the ridgeline seam with a brush and a second, slightly thicker mixture (1:3) of the DIY waterproofing. ((and the small patch I had to sew on when my scissor-fingers got a little too eager!))
My question is this: Should I sew on the guyline pockets before or after the waterproofing? My thinking is that the silicone, when dry, will cause the bug mesh to stick to the tarp, rendering my pockets useless.
I was planning on attaching them all and then sliding a piece of wax paper between the tarp and the bug mesh when I dunk it, then removing it after the drying/curing process is complete.
How would you approach this? Before, like I'm currently thinking, or after the waterproofing is done?
You input is greatly appreciated!!
