    MSH Toggle question

I understand MSH and toggles made of aluminum arrow shafts - but what I haven't seen is a discussion as to what is 'optimum' length for the toggle.

I've experimented with short (about 2", all the way to about 4") - what do you with more experience than I use as a toggle length?

I post this not to stir the pot - but am curious to see what is being used and if there is a reason for that length.

Mine are about 3". It gives a reasonable amount of spike on both sides of the strap. Any more and they are too long for the separate strap bag I pack them in.

    3" is probably the average.

Mine are 3". They don't look like they are ready to fall out but they are short enough not to be in the way.

Of course, it depends on the width of your tree straps. I just made a new pair of straps that are an inch and a half wide. All my other straps are one inch wide and most of my toggles are three inches long.

I'm going to make some longer toggles for these wider straps as 3/4s of an inch out each side gives very little margin for error (and must be centered). I think three and a half inch long toggles will work for these wider straps (that'll give me an inch on each side.) Good luck!
