Exclamation VIDEO: What Not To Do On A Mountain

This trip report is for a hike done back in May. By the time I got around to editing it, June arrived and June was a very hikey, hammocky month. So, better a bit late than never, this trip report is for a climb up a mountain I had on my to do list for a couple of years.

Early in my hiking season, I wasn't quiet "hike fit" enough to do it and found the going a bit on the leg jiggling, tiring side. A little miscalculation with the time it would take didn't help either.

As for the title of the video, on the way up, I stopped to do some videoing and as I was walking back to switch the camera off, I was in deep thought mode, instead of walk mode and came fairly close to falling off the mountain.

Falling off a mountain is not recommended and as you will see in the video, I just managed to save the day. It is very interesting to see me in deep thought, looking out into space as I fell. It shows how easy it can be to get yourself into trouble. There is a track to the top of this mountain on the other side of the hill. I haven't been up that way yet.

The way I went up was an off track route, on the opposite side of the hill. A bit tuff, but fun, going at the best of times, if a bit broken after a fall, it would be just tuff going, not much fun. So, the lesson to learn is be in the moment, when moving.

Anyway... less typing, more hiking video. It's a respectable 12.5 minutes long and if you choose to watching, I hope you enjoy it!

That's a wonderful video. I do like the way you narrate from the hammy as we go along on the journey with you. I also pulled up googlemaps to see the area as you were pointing it out. There's just no comparison as being there.

Great job. I enjoyed yet another BH5 video.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Nice view from up top. Did you have to filter water from the puddles?
All those rocks did look like snake country glad to hear they were hibernating.
Do you have many poisonous snakes to worry about in that area?

Thanks for a great trip report.

Getting all jiggly with it and all that. Always worth the effort isn't it? Breathtaking views and I'm glad you had it to yourself for a spell.
Now I want a cup of concrete)))))
I do enjoy seeing your reports.

Great TR Brucie! Hope the ankle is okay....looked like a bad turn! I think you should return to the area to explore some more. Seemed a nice outdoors playground to me!

    Thanks for another great hike-along!

Hi there Floridahanger! The idea behind the hammy talk is to help cut the video length down. It needs a bit of fine tuning, but seems to work OK. Google Earth and Google maps can be quite handy, but as you said being there is better. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to get the map out and comment on it.

It sure was a nice view up there, nice sunny day to go with it too. Yes, I did have to filter water from the puddles, I used the water from the puddle I fell in, which seemed to be OK. Had a shower with it too. There arn't too many snakes to worry about. Tiger, Brown, Red Belly Black and I'm pretty sure the Death Adder lives around there too. I'm not too keen on getting bitten by any of them. You are most welcome for the trip report, OutandBack! Thanks for taking the time to give it a watch!

A very BIG hello to you Hawk-eye! I think the Mt Barney area is to me like the Linville Gorge area is to you. It's a great place to hike in over and over. I think, if I lived near the Linville Gorge, I would spend a lot of time there.

I don't know if it's just me or not, but somehow a good view on the top of a hill is made better, when there is no wind. A calm sunny day makes the view better. Thanks for checking out the views, Sporto!

My jiggly legs were still jiggly two days later, it was great! It sure is always worth the effort. It must be, I keep going back for more. I was a bit unlucky to not have it all to myself for all of the time I was up there, but they didn't bother me much. You don't need a cup of concrete Mr Shug, you're more than tuff enough, just the way you are! Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it!

The hankle is alright. It was a bit sore for the rest of that day, but came good the next day. The jiggly legs took a bit longer to come good though. I know of three other ways to climb that hill, including the tourest route, so as Arny would say... I'll be back. Outdoors playground describes it well. You're extra welcome for the hike-along SkyPainter, good to hear from you!
