    Dynaglide ridgeline?

Hi all, I'm in the process of putting my first hammock system together. I had planned on using dynaglide for the cont. RL and use prusik knots to tighten the tarp. After stringing up the RL in my back yard, I find the prusik won't hold. I used dynaglide and the reflective guy line off my tent as the cont loop for the prusik

Should I use something else for eithe RL or the prusik?

    Thanks

Dynaglide is more slippery, but I haven't had any problems using Wasps.

If you run the prussik back & forth several times, it will remove a bit of that slickness. It gets better with use.

I suspect the reflective guy line may be stiffer and with less "grab" than ideal. Try zing it, dynaglide, masons line, etc as the prusik material as well as additional wraps of the prusik.

A klemheist is another friction knot that sometimes works better than a prusik.

Ideally a prussik should be made with smaller cord that what it's grabbing onto. Dyneema based cord (Amsteel, Dynaglide, Lash-it/Zing-it, etc) is also very slippery on it's own, and most have a low friction coating applies, as they are originally meant to be throw lines. Alternatively, you can use additional wraps on the prussik to provide more grip, but it can become difficult to adjust. Hardware (like Dutch Wasps, or Tato connector's) can also solve the problem.

Sometimes you will also need to do about 5 to 6 wraps with the prussik to get it to grap

    Dynaglide ridgeline?

On my first attempt to do the very same thing, I also made the mistake of using prussiks along my amsteel CRL. They're plenty good enough on guy lines, but amsteel is slippery and so cannot then be relied upon with weight. What I did instead was to patiently establish the correct dial on my hammock to get the right sag for me. Then, using that measurement and halving it so that I could mark an even distance on either side of the centre point of my RL. At each of these two points, I spliced in a small fixed loop into 15" of amsteel, and then spliced the remainder of the 15" into the RL. My hammock now attaches to these loops with a soft shackle, all beneath my tarp on a single RL.

That reflective stuff is lousy for knot work.
