Good question. Also, are there any camps that are not suited to hammock camping?

I am curious as well, I have never hiked the Wonderland (I tend to stick to small out of the way trails)

I'll post to the trip reports my findings after i go for future reference so if its some one's wish list they know the sites to pick for their permit but depending on how tired i am i probably wont look into all the possible sites.

I recently emailed the NPS the following:
"We have a permit to do a section of the Wonderland in August and I am trying to decide on whether to go to ground or bring my hammock. We have camps at Devils Dream, South Puyallup and Golden Lakes. My hammock setup adheres to LNT principals and I would be using tree straps. Can you tell me if hanging is allowed and whether these particular camps would support it? Thank you for the assistance."

This is what they sent back:
"The biggest requirement is that you use FLAT webbing to affix the hammock to the trees. Sounds like that is what you have.
Others have used hammocks on the trail and I have had no reports of issues in regard to not being able to set them up at those camps. Be sure to have ample line.
    "

The Ranger that I corresponded with was Daniel Keebler, he's a Ranger at Mt. Rainier National Park.

    Hope this helps.
A hanging, though, was something different. I got to thinking. We hadn’t never been to nothing just to have a good time. A hanging was special and we was all getting to go.

Twice complete trail hike years ago before the floods. If memory serves me I would say vast majority of the campsites are in tree cover. Carbon river, Mowich lake, Puyallup river, Indian Henry's, Paradise river etc. Above the forest to alpine slim to none if caught in the weather. Pack for mist and rain. First none very rare all sunshine, second rain and mist. Book oh what's that recommended and dated is Discovering the Wonders of the Wonderland Trail Bette Filley. Plenty of water lakes and streams for a filter to lighten you load. The way I remember up elevation then down and up some more for 10 days. Rated #1 for scenery and you hike thru 4 ecosystems. If this seems a bit much there are 4 sections to explore I like the Summerland route. Hammock is best to stay off that wet ground.
I bet HG had a great time.

    Hammocking the Wonderland.

    Life gets Busy Go Figure.

As far as this trip goes I didn't have any issues with the exception with Mowich lake (its a car camp) so they have problem with you stepping on the grass, let alone setting up a hammock in the Trees.

No Worries we had a perfectly good picnic table to sleep on

As far as the hammocking goes Never had a problem anywhere else but I would recommend having strap extenders or extra long straps (I used 8 Footers from HH with my ultralight Aysm. without issue)

Attached is a little cheat sheet i typed after my trip for any that are Interested.

There are tons of spots up there. You may need to be a little creative.
