Waded 3 miles downstream of the campsite and never found the hammock. But given the fact that it was woodland camo, and there are countless trees down in the river the odds of finding it were slim to begin with.

That sucks.
Man does that river look sweet! Hopefully you guys can get back to 100% relaxation and enjoy yourselves.

I spent the last few days with nothing but a fishing pole when outside, and surfing the net on the KOA wireless from the cabin.. "roughing it"
I'll deal with the reality when I unpack.
Here's a short video of right after the storm.. I killed the audio to remain "family friendly"
You can see the pole still standing from where I had the tarp strung up over the hammock, the Handy Hammock stand *was* there.. and ended up in the bushes just down wind of us. The people 3 sites down from us had their popup shelter, tarp, and tent rainfly vanish into thin air. That dang Eureka tent of mine... stayed put. Granted, it was loaded with gear, and staked down in 8 places.. but it fared pretty well.
The thing I pick up 1:15 into the video is the little white "O" from a Tato Tarp pull out.
The Hennessey Tarp was in the tree 2 sites down from us.
Final count for the damage, after hunting around was:
1 missing pole from a 2 pole mod.
one missing DL Hammock, one whoopie sling, various hardware (quilt clips, etc)
1 Broken Trekking pole
1 Dead Tarp, I did Salvage the RL and Dutchware from it.
3 missing Tato tarp pull outs
One Popup Shelter.

===> Wow Justin! Listen...first thing you do when you get home, or at a hang, to tell folks about this, is have two cold beers first.
Because no really good story ever started with a salad.

PS: If you get jammed for gear, let us know. I just made a coupla sets of Whoopies. If you need a set, PM me.

Thanks Chazz! Other than the gear it was a decent trip, and you would have loved it. The West Canada Creek is stocked with Browns, and has a wild population of browns and brookies, and with all the trees down, the trout were going nuts feeding on the bugs. Anything that remotely looked like hopper, or ant landed a fish more times than not with most being 15-20" range. I lost one of my better flies on a brown in the upper 20's range..gave me the slip as I went to net him
There were also Dobsonflies everywhere.. I think I need to find some flies in a hellgrammite pattern..

It must have been crazy riding out the tornado in a camper. Were you in the one next to your site?
Dude, thats an amazing story--------glad ur ok sorry about your hammock
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Yep.. we didn't really have much choice.. there was no real warning, and no real confirmation if it was a tornado or not. We got a text message from the state warning system less than 5 minutes before the storm hit.. Prior to that, it was a thunderstorm warning, and even then, the clouds didn't look to bad.
Given more warning, I would have taken everything down.. and setup the gopro
I'm glad that camper stayed put. Did you have your kid with you?! I was wondering why anyone would run to a camper in a tornado...but with that kind of short notice I guess you had no choice. Interesting how the tarp shredded before the stakes and tie outs gave. Were you using lashit or zingit tieouts? And how did that trekking pole snap? Was it rigged to the tarp? Crazy situation to be put in!
The trekking pole actually had a branch land on it.. It bent pretty bad
I was using Titanium nail stakes on glowire tie outs with a zing it ridgeline. The Ridgeline pulled off the top of the pole, and the stakes came out of the ground.. as far as I can tell, it left the tarp flapping in the wind by the one D ring closest to the tree.. and then the tarp ripped at that tie out. Sending the tarp with the pole mod and 4 corner guys (with stakes) flying away, and leaving the tarp RL attached to the tree.
A testament to Dutch hooks.. the stakes were attached to the tie outs with dutch hooks.. and they never failed.. all 4 ti stakes were still on the tarp
And yea.. my daughter was with us
