question about a "warbonnet style ridgeline"

I am making a new tarp, and have a few questions about making the ridgeline "warbonnet style" with grosgain along the top. Does any type of grosgain work? (what about the stuff they sell at walmart--its pretty cheap!) Are there different ways to sew the ridgeline? How do you attatch the ridgeline pulls? Any other suggestions or advice? Thanks!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

I would get quality grosgrain from a place like Diy gear supply. If you're putting the effort into a diy tarp, you don't want to skimp on something like the ridge line. Just my opinion. As far as sewing it, I would sew the two sides together first with a 1/4 seam allowance and then bind it with 3/4 inch grosgrain. Maybe fold and iron the grosgrain so its easier to work with. Leave a few inches of grosgrain on each end so that it can be doubled back on itself to create the tieout. A lot of people use small split rings for the tieout hardware instead of a d-ring.

You can also buy pre folded grosgrain to make life a little easier.

I found that every time I try the iron trick my grosgrain starts to get a curve to it. This is with my iron on the lowest possible setting. I think for the next project I'm going to spring for the guide attachment and call it a day. Seems so much easier. I don't have easy access to the link right now, but Papa Smurf did a video about them.
