Hooch is THE MAN/Speer UQ is THE BOMB!!

Ok, so last Thursday I put up a post regarding my upcoming trip to Minnesota, the fact that I planned to do some hanging while there, and recommendations to stay warm in the predicted low 50/high 40 evenings.

Hoock chimed in and offered for me to use/borrow his UQ anytime. I asked if he minded if I used it for the trip, and he said, sure. Since he lived in Charlotte as well, and was off that day, he said he would throw it in the car and met me later in the day. Having never met or even talked to (other than through the forums here) this great guy, he still agreed to let me take this very nice piece of gear of halfway across the country for the week. What an awesome, class act guy! This forum is full of great advice and great people, but I just wanted to give a big shout out to one of the best.

Hooch, you are the man! Thanks so much!

Now, to the Speer UQ.....WOW!! The night I finally got out to hang (weather was pretty crappy during the week, so I stayed in the cabin) the temos dropped down to the upper 40's. I put on the UQ, hung the tarp down low, and simply covered with a GI poncho liner (maybe another favorite new trick, super light, warm, more on that later) and I have to say, stayed toasty all night. It was crazy how effective this Speer UQ is!! Put my hand right above the hammock line, and the air was crazy cold, pulled back to under the hammock line, and it was warm and toasty, without even covering up. Huge gusts of wind all day the next day, off the lake which was 50 yds away, and the hammock stayed toasty and unphased by the wind.

Mr. Speer, I will be calling you for sure upon your return from vacation to place my order! Incredible product!! Will probably pick up a new tarp while I'm at it!

So, again, thanks so much to Hooch, what a story, what a guy! And to Speer, helluva product!

Glad to hear it worked so well. Was this a Speer Snugfit, a PeaPod, or something else Speer is making now?

No, to be perfect it would have to lose some weight.

    Snugfit and Mt. Washington

I've got both and 2 peapods, and several first gen UQs, and on top of that several home made UQs.
I truly pity somone who has to choose between the Snugfit and the Mt. Washington....it's not that I haven't med Ed and the Jacks--I've met them all and would help either change a flat tire on a bad road. It's just that either way is a winner; both products are remarkable and share some common technology namely the differential cut.
Knowing what I know about either product I really don't know how one would decide one or the other.

Thanks for all the kind words, Enolounger. I'm just trying to do my part to help a fellow hammocker out a little. When I first started getting serious about looking at UQ's, I was living in Kentucky at the time and HC4U loaned me his SnugFit to try out on a car camping trip in the late fall. It worked like a charm, I fell in love with it and the rest, as they say, is history. I'm glad the SnugFit worked out well for you. I's a great piece of gear and worth every penny. I sent you a PM last night and I'll give you a call later today to arrange to get the UQ back in the next couple days.
