    First hike with the hammock

Took my diy hammock on a hike over the weekend. Much, much better than sleeping on the ground! Didn't have that beaten up feeling when I awoke each morning.

I took along my 40 degree bag and got a little chilly, temps were in the 50's each night. I'll have to start work on an underquilt now.

Thanks to eveyone on the forum for introducing me to hammocking.

Are you saying you camped without an uq or any insulation on the bottom??
If so, then when you do add something for under insulation, your top quilt will do just fine and keep you toasty. I'm surprised that at those night time temps, that you only got a little chilly, I would have been a popsicle by the next morning!!!

    first hike

I built a Hennessy style clone with a tube bug net that has a vertical side entry zipper. I actually built two. One has the Hennessy whipping and the other a W-gathered whipping. Both are very comfortable. The bug nets are removeable.

I'm using the guide gear tarp currently.

No underquilt this time, just my slumberjack sleeping bag. It really wasn't that bad.

Yup, high 50s and chilly bottom are survivable, low 50s are down right cold... Clearly a wake up call (pun) for an under insulation plan....
