    New Florida Hanger

Hey all! About 8 years ago I purchased my first hammock, A Speers Hammock with Peabody Sleeping Bag. I've only used it a few times but love love love it. Unfortunately my life has taken me off the trail and out of nature for some time but I'm starting to experience the call of the wild once again and have decided to start planning a 2016 AT Thru-Hike. After my hammock experience in the woods I don't think I can ever move back to the ground on a regular basis. As I plan, research and continue to learn I look forward to meeting more people from HF's and hopefully making it to one of the Hangs.

Welcome. Here in Florida we tend to hang in fall through spring at least once per month. The mid-January hang has of over100 hangers. A few hardy souls (not me) are hanging in Ocala National Forest next weekend. Check the trip planning, outings sub-forum .

Thanks Mike. In preparation for my AT Hike I want to section hike the FL Trail over the next 2 years. I'm just a few miles from the southern terminus so will probably tinker around down there this fall and winter. I did see the hang in Ocala this month unfortunately I will be working but hopefully when this FL hiking season comes I'll be able to make it to one or more of the hangs. Thanks again for the welcome. Would love your insight on another post about best gear for my up coming hikes if you have some time.

    Welcome from Philly.
When I was a kid the only time we were in the house was to eat and sleep.
