I suppose one could stitch 1" loops of string on the outside of each the four "corners" of the net. Then you could insert sticks as desired. I'm going to have to try this! The only thing is the style of net I'm using is the SEEP style, open at the top. Hmm... back to the drawing board.

Safety pin the loops onto your net until you get them exactly where you want them.

All the above suggestions are good. What I would do is spray my hammock and netting with Sawyer Permethrin. YMMV

Tendertoe, I watched your bugnet video too. Nice presentations. You definitely have your snarf in one sock on both the bug net construction and the net tie out thing. It keeps the net away from the side about the right distance. You have inspired me to try my first DIY project. Funny...watching your vids and taking notice of the woods behind you, the hunter in me keeps asking, "Man...I'd like to be up in my climbing stand about 300 yards out in those hardwoods...I wonder if there are any hogs in those woods..."

Funny you should mention that. I always prefer to go out to the woods even if it's just a local park or something to shoot video of something I'm trying to share. Up until a few months ago, we didn't really have a yard so I didn't have a choice but I'll still probably do it as it just feels more genuine to be talking about gear in the woods compared to in my backyard.

Most of the spots in my videos best you would find would be squirrel. Maybe a deer if you're lucky. More than likely a dog and an owner out for a stroll.

You should see the look on people's faces out for a morning jog looking 100 feet off trail and seeing a guy talking to himself with a full hammock setup and a video camera strapped to his head

I've done the spreader bar for my bugnets before. I simply took a ~4" long piece of 1/2" wide elastic per side and sewed it to the netting in loops about where my head and shoulders were. Collapse your hiking pole or find a trail twig about as big around as your thumb, twist the elastic loops over the ends of your spreader, and you're good to go.

The only reason my current net doesn't have it is that I found storm mode with my tiny tarp to be a pain to do with the spreader bar in; I was afraid of punching an hole in the tarp with it right on the ridgeline.

    Hope it helps!

1st hammock was a Byers Mosquito Traveler with a sewn on bug net that always seemed to find a way to hang in my face. My solution was to go to my pile of stuff from my "Wire Pulling" days and dig out a piece of pulling rod. Yellow fiber glass, maybe 1/8 inch in diameter. Cut a chunk about 20 inches long, gutted some cheap braided rope (I suppose gutted paracord would work as well), slid the rod into that, and Gorilla taped the ends til they were about 1/4 to 3/8 in diameter. Very light, springy, easy to pack. Set it on top of the ridgeline and use tieouts, sew little pockets and tuck each end in, or in a pinch just shove it up in the peak of the bugnet above your head. It will rotate down but the friction between the tape and the netting held it up there.
