    Calculating the weight of fabric

How do I tell how much fabric weighs? Is it as easy as the name? Does 1.1 ripstop weigh 1.1oz/yd2?

    Educate me, please

    That's it!
The only quirk to be aware of is SOME sellers advertise silnylon based on the uncoated weight of the underlying fabric. For instance, an advertised 1.1 silnylon is probably 1.1 nylon plus 0.3 of silicone for a finished weight of 1.4 oz/SY. The good vendors label their stuff clearly.

I'm looking at fabric from DIYgearsupply -- any experience with their weight measurements?

Great vendor! Most of my materials have come from them over the years. Read the description in the link below. Scott is very clear about not only the final weight, but also the component weights of the coatings.
