Prepare for bad weather, yes indeed - I always keep that in mind. This thing we do mostly it'll make you uncomfortable when thing go wrong but it's worth keeping in mind that they can go wrong.

Along the lines of preparing I tried to contact the Forest Service in SC to see if there had been reports of illegal hunting (oh never, what never, no never ...) if anybody called back I didn't get the message.
However I did put some thought into getting an International Orange/Blaze Orange vest. Found a tee shirt in the right color in Walmart this morning. I'm far from an UL gram weenie but it appeals to me to have something like this that does double-duty, hiking during hunting season and just wearing though under another shirt or jacket. My wife said "Huh, you won't have any problem with that one getting away!"

She's probably right but smart is smart! Hunters are required to wear blaze orange during hunting season so it only makes sense to wear it if you're going to be in the woods. IMHO

I will be carrying the orange tee, a red pack cover and a red down vest. OCD, me? Nothing like that.☺

Finally settled dates - October 7 thru 10. Hope there's some color in the leaves, the weather is mild and the forest is reasonably un-occupied.

Enjoy. It's a beautiful area. I get away with using my blaze orange rain jacket draped out of the back of my pack. Temps are about right, but may drop lower if it rains.

Sept 1 on Monday. Into my last planning details. I think my itinerary has me walking too slow. 36 hours with 3 over nights (2 half days) from Burell's Ford north than east and south to return to Burell's Ford. Got a new GPS to carry, Garmin GPSMap 62st, working on fingering it out and I need to replace my specs. Got to start watching the weather trends for Ga mountains.

You don't need to watch the weather. Plan for about 35 and be pleasantly surprised when its not. Plan for rain, but expect that it will be gear not used. Keep in mind that you'll be out of the river valley once you start the Fork Mt trail north of Ellicott. You prepared to not be camping at an ordinary campsite - but rather, a make you're own one? The only real issue for me was finding a flat spot to cook that wasn't in fluffy forest duff. I highly recommend getting a tree stand - Klaussinator and 2QZQ sell them.

dakotaross you have guessed right. I have the 2QZQ tree table and mean to use it. Right now only concern is remembering where stuff is!

Camping 3x. One east of Ellicott's Rock and the river. One half way to 107 and last half way from Sloan Bridge to Burell's Ford.
Choosing where to camp was a major deciding factor for me in getting a hammock (WB RR) set up.
