Not sure your exact route but in the Burrells Ford area up through where Ellicott Rock is you are following the river. Then I think it leaves the river for a while but I can't say for sure cuz I've only gone as far as Ellicott Rock.

By loop, I assume you mean something like Burrell's Ford to Sloan's Bridge, Fork Mountain Trail to Chattooga River, and back to Burrell's Ford.
You'll have plenty of water along the Chattooga River and a few streams on the Fork Mountain Trail. From Burrell's Ford to Fish Hatchery Road is dry. There are at least two streams from FH Road to Sloan's Bridge. As long as you can filter, a couple of liters should be sufficient.

Route will be
Burell's Ford to Ellicott Rock on the Chatooga, TR 221,
then east and north along state boundary, TR 322
to Sloan Bridge, SC 107, returning on the Foot Hills Trail 220.
If I get ambitious may extend down to Oconee ST by staying on the Foothills Trail or out at Cherry Hill via 223.
If you get ambitious, I would recommend you go east on the Foothills Trail when you get to Sloan's Bridge. It's a nice 5 mile hike to Upper Whitewater Falls. You'll see some beautiful views of the Bad Creek reservoir at Lake Jocassee. There is a great camp site about half way to the falls. It was an Eagle Scout project. It is designated on the map.
You could hike 5 miles to the falls, picnic tables, bathroom, water and then hike 2-3 miles back to the campsite. I think you would enjoy it.

That sounds good. I'll add that to my route notes.
Thanks.!
Just upstream from from the Rock is a deep little pool with a beach. It is a little beach, maybe 100 ft by 30 ft, with bone white sand! In the middle of a forest, it was one of the wierdest things I've ever seen, it doesn't belong there but its there. I base camped there and when I got back from hiking in the early afternoon, I laid on that white sand beach sunning myself. Sweet!
This was about 3 years ago, I think about it from time to time , good memories.
As you get close to Ellicott Rock, the trail is a little overgrown, which is good. Be be aware of Ticks. My buddy and I ended up pulling about 7 off in one day.
Just got back from five days there. Summer evenings are warm but the days and nights with rain can be chilly. For the time of year you are planning to go you might prepare for near freezing temperatures at night. My philosophy is prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
