Singer 6180 to replace Janome ?

I don't even know the model number of this Janome. I bought it off Ebay as a reconditioned machine when I started Whoopieslings.com. So its gone through alot of bartacks on webbing, and I think its just worn out.

Thoughts on the Singer model 6180? I haven't found to many online issues/reviews that favor it in a negative light.....

What are you going to use the new machine for? Will it just be for personal/home use? Do you need all of those stitches?

I personally would not buy a new singer.

Yes, personal/home use. I dont "need" all the stitches, but the price is right.

I use a Necchi Supernova, that has the tensions set for RayWay and other outdoor thread, exclusively for bartacking webbing. For everything else I use a treadle.
I agree with momtaxi, I wouldn't buy any new plastic machine if I were going to sew webbing. It will not last.

But if it's for light home use and the price is right--go for it.

Thoughts on the brother cs 6000i?

The lower end brothers seem to have a very good reputation.

I would not buy a new anything made by Brother, Their printers are horrible IMHO and Walmart sells the sewing machines. That's more than enough reason for me to steer clear. They used to be a good company but no more.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Does one really need to drop 3 + bills on a machine to sew ripstop?

OK Opie here's the problem I see in your future. You have been spoiled rotten by a good machine. I really don't see you happy with a new low end machine. I could be wrong but I doubt it. Don't buy anything you can't sit down with and put through it's paces. I suggest a retail store where you can play with the choices.
