    New guy in fla

Hey folks, I just caught this fever. I am currently waiting on my first camping hammock to be shipped. So while I wait I figured I would learn things from the experts. Next thing I know I'm watching YouTube and learning about tarps, ridge lines, knots and cordage and tons of other stuff, Information overload, lol

Anyways thanks for a great site.

    Welcome from Philly.
When I was a kid the only time we were in the house was to eat and sleep.

Welcome to HF. I really enjoy your part of the country, so many places there I have yet to visit. The hammock camping world is constantly innovating so there is no end to all the new techniques and gear (aka toys). Very addictive, best to put a budget on your $ and time. Be sure to add your hammock and tarp etc to your profile, and like everyone says try it all out locally before you go too far into the wilderness. Nothing worse than realizing you need a bit more cordage or some little thing. Once I took no fire starter of any kind and a hail and thunderstorm ran off all other campers for miles around and soaked all the wood so rubbing sticks together was not fun. Good times to learn from.

Welcome from Central Florida! There are lots of folks around who have lots of knowledge to share and the forums are a wealth of information.

If you have a chance find a group hang near you to attend (or just planning on coming down for the 5th Annual Florida Hang in January 2015). Group hangs are a great way to meet other hangers and a good way to see the types and kinds of setups out there too.

Welcome from the southern end of Florida, Max! You know that there is no cure for this fever.

BTW, Pensacola is my hometown, but I haven't been there in 40 years.

I'm from Pensacola! Whenever I'm there in from Oct-May I always try to get a hang in. Enjoy the addiction.

Thanks for the welcome wagon guys, looking forward to my first hang.

Mad777, Pensacola is probably a lot different than you remember lol. A lot of change in 40 years. Maybe when I get the "hang" of this stuff I can organize a group hang in my neck of the woods.

I'm thinking about organizing one at Torreya State Park. Not super close to you, but not super far!
