Soft webbing slipping on a g clip warning

I had a customer email me giving me a heads up that the G Clip worked great with rigid webbing like my black webbing and WB webbing but it slipped using my more pliable camo strap webbing. I am hiking in Hawaii until the 25th and I can't check this out. I pulled theme from the site until I can look into it. To be prudent lets use a half hitch just to be safe. I have a resign in mind that can fix this. Until then better safe than sorry. To be clear the customer was very clear that he double checked it was threaded right. It worked great with stiffer webbing.

    Aloha

I haven't had a chance to use mine yet, but was planning to use the camo webbing. Thanks for the heads up.

Dude, awesome customer service, especially when you bear in mind you're on an island!

It was me and it could be user error. I love the G-clips but they did dig into some softer/thinner webbing. It wasn't camo but it is thinner and softer than other webbing I have. Also, no injuries just noticed the damage when taking the hammock down. I had a very squirmy son in the hammock with me
who probably added to the stress.

Given the gram weenie that I aspire to be, I used thin, soft, pliable webbing for straps and found them to look scary damaged after a few nights. Not to be discouraged, I went through a few sets of similar straps. Being older & wiser and not the least bit anxious for a bruised butt, I have resolved myself to use the black straps like Dutch now offers.

The weight ratings on the thinner, more pliable straps looks OK, but once out of the package, they begin fraying easily and I'm convinced, they quickly become the weak link in my system.

That was an extremely long-winded way of saying that we should probably use the sturdier straps anyway, which would also solve any slippage issues.

Pulled from the shop. No wonder I couldn't find them this evening despite searching for ages!
I'll watch this with interest from my island (UK)

Yeah, the softer camo webbing is most likely the problem, i have even poked a hole thru mine with a regular dutchclip before, it's nice webbing but too soft for everyday use imo.

OH so not just for your special friends

Thanks for the post, I assumed you only sold them to your special friends when I could not find them. It is difficult to design a buckle for every variation of 1" strap out there. I always use the extra webbing to make a half hitch even if strap and buckle were sold together as a matched pair.
There is no guarantee that all or even most customers will read instructions and most metal buckles will outlast the webbing they were sold with if that is even the case. Motto of every hanger should be to hang low and over flat, soft ground when possible.

I have some polyester straps from Strapworks that tend to slide thru almost any type of buckle. I have to use a half hitch to keep it from sliding. I don't use them any more because of the slipping problem.
