Cool VIDEO REPORT: Sub 10lb Solo Trip to the White Mountains (Go Pro 1080p)

I got out for two nights on a solo "ultralight" trip. My baseweight was 9.93 pounds. My fly rod came with me, and I landed quite a few brook trout. Fly gear (14oz) not included in baseweight since I normally wouldnt carry it. I had new gear to try out: simplylightdesigns bug net, Zpacks gear, and the Ursack Minor. My gear list is attached. 45F Low Base Weight.pdf

All things went to plan to make another perfect trip. Thanks for watching.

Great job on the video! It looked like you were ready for the bugs.
That area is a favorite of my wife & I. We leave from Crawford Notch and hit Tom, Fields and, Willey and return on the same route to avoid the ladders. Or we start at Willey House and climb to Ethan Pond and on through Zealand Notch/Falls, again avoiding those steeps.

Which flies did you find productive on Ethan Pond? I usually carry my 7', 2wt if there are fishable waters on the trail.

Another great video. Sometimes, I have trouble sleeping when I go solo, with fresh "Bear" sign around. Keep listening for things that go "bump" in the night.

Thanks. That area is an instant favorite of mine. I'm not used to the mountain ponds, so that was a real treat. The ladders were tough, but I think more comfortable than jagged rocks. Give it a shot next time. As for the flies, they seemed to be hitting everything I threw at them and I kept changing it up just for fun. Wooly Bugger, Royal Wulf, Adams, foam beetle...they were feisty. My 5 weight did fine, but ideally something lighter or even Tenkara would be fun.

I slept without my earplugs the first night and the noises woke me up a few times. Nothing big, but some little jumpy creatures that kept running at me from a distance, as if I was on their trail or something. I was more lights out the second night with my earplugs in and after a long day of hiking. When I envision a bear approaching me in the woods, I just assume it will be scared to death once it realizes I'm human and run off.

Thanks. I had to pass on a lot of spots so I could tag the mountains and make my loop.
