    California Hangers, Hang Ten!

Not that we want to go to the beach or anything, but to the rest of the world that's what we do here, right?

Anyone up for a group hang in the Sunshine State? We have wilderness areas and national parks galore. I'm voting for October or next spring.

Yosemite has little trees in the high country and down in the valley the campgrounds have next to none. Sequoia and Kings Canyon have trees, but with Sequoia's your straps would have to be measured in quarter mile increments (it's a slight overstatement, but not by much) CLICK HERE for a view of a normal sized Sequoia.

The wilderness area's or other parks in the State would afford opportunities for hanging. I'm in the area above San Francisco and have no trouble finding a lot of places to hang. Also I bring 20 foot straps and use them regularly.

Uh, dude. Sequoia has plenty of trees that aren't Sequoias - I go there, lots. Some areas of KC are burned out but others have plenty of fir and pine. The campground at Potwisha has oak. I've hung from a single oak tree before.

Yosemite? I've hung in the Valley, around Hetch Hetchy, Ostrander Lake and Little Yosemite Valley. The only campground that fails at being hammock friendly is Wawona, the parking lot of many RVs.

My personal recommendation would be either Huntington or Shaver - resort lakes, but lots and lots of trees and campgrounds to choose from.

    So. Cal

Down here in So Cal we have lots of places to hang. My back yard is the San Bernardino National forrest. With the PCT running through.
Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course.

somewhere in the central sierras should work good, or the central coast, or up by shasta, or oh man the choices are mind boggling.

lori october would be great for me. weather shouldn't be to bad, but could also be extremely cold with 2ft of snow on the ground. just don't laugh if I still have my blue wally world tarp, and coleman external frame pack.

Yeah, central location could/would be key for me and others. Just a bit south of Yosemite would be good for most. I'd prefer north.. but.. well. I live north.

I did some car camping near Bass Lake last year. Lots of NF/free camping out there and even had a beer resupply/great burger/fresh apple pie run via dirt roads to "Jone's Store" out in the middle of nowhere.

I've already got a trip in the works for October; but, I can always do another.

Is this going to be a backpack or car camp trip?

Also, later in the early winter maybe Big Sur would work.

Beasore/Minarets would be gorgeous. Could go on an overnight backpack into Ansel Adams wilderness from the pack station at the end of Minarets Road.

I was thinking car camp for a night so we could party, and perhaps an overnight or two night backpack. Depends on where we go. Big Sur would be a lot of fun - no permit needed, just pay for parking, and there are hot springs ten miles out from the trail behind the Big Sur Ranger Station.
