    Guttermann TERA 60, suitable?

I've bought some Gutterman Tera 60 thread, but I'm starting to think it may be too thin...

I plan to make gather end hammocks with it, with 1.1oz and 1.6oz nylon,

    what do you think?

Not too thin at all. Several of the commonly used threads are thinner and much weaker. The TERA threads are very strong.

Have you tried breaking it? That stuff is strong. I use it for channel ends on hammocks with no problem. For general quilt sewing, etc. I use Mara 40, which is much lighter. See what RamblinRev says, but I think some people think it's too strong for really light fabrics. I like it.

If I remember correctly, Tera is marketed towards leather working and shoe making and is really strong stuff. I use Mara 70 which is just a little lighter than your Tera 60. I haven't had a thread failure yet.

Tera 60 is made specifically for applications like this. I use it for hammock and quilts. Go for it.

Several DIY people at HF who know far more about this than I ever will have mentioned that using thin needles to do less damage to thin fabric and is a compromise or balance with the strength of the thread. But they worded it better. I.e not extreme thin or thick.

The thread size measurements thing still confuses me. The number after Mara or Tera is Gutermann's in house thing in addition to the info in this nice writeup.
