Sorry I was out of town. Yes, hang in usual place near the bridge. I will check out farther down where old4hats was talking about to see if it is a good place. But I will check that out saturday probably.
For new folks make sure you bear bag your food, as the raccoons are popular in that area.
I have some caramel vodka for us to check out. I sure do like it.
As for the apple cobbler, lets put it on the fire, not in the fire. LOL
"No whining in the woods"
Looks like the wife will be able to attend once she gets off work. That has us leaving Raleigh at about 7PM. Will drive to Salisbury and spend the night. Should put us there late morning on Saturday. I will also bring a drink.
Straight out of Clayton.
Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.
I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.
Grannypat, did you mean near the concrete bridge up the trail towards the East Fork of the Chatooga River? The reason I ask is that the East Fork comes down from the Fish Hatchery and meets the Chatooga River some distance from the concrete bridge. It would be a good 45 minute to an hour walk up the trail to where they meet. It is such a beautiful area. I just spent five days in there. It is my old stomping grounds since I grew up near there. I will have to see if I can join you for this hang.
Darn! I think I'll have to miss this one too, I'm probably on-call that weekend.
From October, 2013 hang:
From the GA Side (per Swinginit) For anyone coming in from the Clayton area, take Warwoman Rd until it dead ends into Hwy 28. Turn right and go 2-3 miles. Burrells ford rd will be on the left. Drive down Burrells Ford Rd about 6 miles until you cross the bridge. Park there, the trail will be on the left. If you see the campground you went too far.
For those of you not familiar with this area, it's on the Chattooga River, which flows between GA and SC. From Walhalla SC, go north 8.5 miles on Hwy 28 to SC 107. Go right on Hwy 107 for 8.9 miles to Burrell's Ford Road (FR 708). Left on Burrell's Ford Road for 3 miles to BurrellsFord Campground parking area. Drive on past the parking lot for the campground and park at the bottom of the hill at the trailhead on the right. If you get to the river, you just passed it. You follow the trail up the river. We usually camp by the bridge where the East Fork River flows into the Chattooga. I think it's about a mile hike in to the site. You can also hike in from the Fish Hatchery, which on Hwy 107 a little past Burrell's Ford Road.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!
