How to distinguish poly straps from nylon?

Well, like the post says, how do I do it? Is there an easy way? Got some 1" camo ratchet straps that I think I picked up at Bass Pro. I googled this question and found that burning poly should smell like celery and nylon should have a chemical smell. So I tried it. Definitely wasn't a chem smell, but I wouldn't call it celery exactly either. Any other quick way to tell?

Nylon usually has a tighter weave than polyester, but not always. These days, ratchet straps are almost always polyester. The only really good way to tell is if the label says what the straps are made of and they often do. Both plastics will melt and burn. Polyester should hold up a bit better in the sunlight, but isn't quite as strong as nylon. Polyester shouldn't sag when wet like nylon.
