Camping in the BWCA late last week my dearly beloved dangerbird shuffled off this mortal coil whilst I was reading a book.
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own

Ouch! Are you okay?

Material?
Single layer?
Did it tear just below the channel stitching? Is that what we are seeing in the pic?

Papa Smurf and Mama Smurf to the rescue.
This is my fear with getting into hammock camping. I purchased a used like new BIAS WW hammock from a user on this forum and I saw the same thing developing. The fabric was starting to tear and stretch under the channel stitching. It was a 1.1 single layer fabric. He was the same weight as me at 150lbs so I was surprised to see that. He didn't even notice it was happening and was kind enough to let me return it for a full refund. I'm hoping that even though i'm only 150lbs getting a double layer 1.1 will counter this issue. Have other people encountered this problem with channel stitching?

This old gal was DangerBird #50. Born back on Apr 6, 2012.
I saw her not too long ago when she was in for some repairs to her netting. She seemed to be getting along pretty good then.
Her body was built from the old 1.1oz Forest Green ripstop that DIY Gear Supply used to sell.
backpackingZombie - just let me know if you want to put her down and upgrade to a younger model or try to save the old gal and we'll work with you on it. We might be able to transplant some of her old parts over. That way it'll be like she lives on.
I would have to say that there is no doubt in my mind that the Smurf's put thier heart into every build and even after thousands of hammocks Papa Smurf knows every one of them. Not only is there time, money, sweat and top notch craftsmanship in every hammock they build but it looks like there's also some love as well !
The fact that Papa Smurf could tell you when it was made is a statement to the customer service and TLC that goes into Dream Hammocks.
