My first legit hang Bankhead National Forest

Me and a friend had planned to hike a lollipop loop in BH forest this past weekend for over two months. Super bad timing due to the extreme heat. Here in Alabama the humidity is terrible. Anyway, we hiked quite a few miles before finding the spot we wanted to set up camp. As soon as I set up my hammock my friend was jealous. He had a small one man tent and a sleeping matteress. I slept awesome, he did not. His tent was very close to me and many times he would wake me up moving around. If it were not for the him and the extreme heat I would have likely slept all night without interuption. The only thing that was differnet was when adjusting in the middle of the night there is really not much to push against to get yourself adjusted. Other than that I have never slept so good while camping. It was awesome. Oh yeah my friend is selling his tent and buying a hammock.

We also ran into two other hangers yesterday morning. We hiked past their camp but it looked like they were still comfortably sleeping.

I also had recently posted a thread on underquilts. Here in Alabama a hammock needs a good central ac unit Lol. I did have a mini handheld fan it was like someone blowing hot air in your face.

The Sipsey is where I hung my first nights in a hammock too. From that point it was bye bye tent!

If you think you were hot in that hammock, imagine how hot your buddy was in that tent! That's the main reason I switched; sometimes in the fall and spring it can be too warm for a tent in this part of the country. Back in early March it was 70 degrees at night, and my tent was a sweat box. Never again.

Great job getting out there even of it was hot. Can't imagine how aweful the tent must have been.

Good first outing. You slept well and converted someone. Wondering if the hangers you saw were members here.

My first hang was there, in the heat of summer. Temp got up to 98 degrees that day, and I actually got chilly that night. Until I grabbed my poncho liner...
Was there any water flowing? I love to fish while I'm there.
