    Hiya from Maryland

    Hi all,

    I'm building my first hammock, and wanted to say thanks for all the info here!

    I've been a backpacker on and off most of my adult life. Back in 08 or 09 I discovered a cheapo Byer Mountain Mosquito Hammock. I think I paid $20. I took it out with a blue tarp for a trip (my friend took my ultra light 2 person tent just in case) in the Shenandoah Valley, and had the best nights sleeps camping out ever. Of course after that my wife was pregnant, and my son was born, so there went hammock backpacking!

    Fast forward to now... I'm crazy, and volunteered to help chaperone 28 freshmen college students through Algonquin park on a canoe trip (one of my favorite parks to backpack from back in college). I pulled out my old Byer hammock, and I just really didn't trust it for that long out, so I started building one!

    Welcome to HF from Georgia. Sounds like a great trip but would be a little like herding cats with that many freshmen to watch over.
