Also in for the Oct Retreat/hang. Can't find a thread for the end of Sept/Gasp hang????
Haven't started a thread yet for Summer's Last Gasp; I'm waiting to hear back from my coworker about covering shifts for me before committing to a date.

My condolences for your loss, Sandy.

Count me in! FHV! I had such a great time at the last one, wouldn't miss it for the world.
This time around I will organize a better basic knot tying workshop, and I will more than happy help out anyone who wants to learn something more advanced throughout the weekend. (Timberrr, I promise by the end of the hang you will know how to tie the monkey's fist)

I'm sorry for the hurt your feeling and your loss, but am glad for the trip over the rainbow. Had a few nice hikes with Canela.

The Oct hang will be a few weeks after FLRider's Summer's Last Gasp Hang that is usually at the end of September and at Hidden Pond in Ocala. Keep an eye out for this one as well if you don't mind a little over a 3mile hike on the FT.

The rest of the clan will chime in ASAP. I'm not sure about Tom. Family and work keep him from joining as much as he wants. I will keep working on it.

Olddog, I noticed on Sunday, you have "shrimp grits or cheezy bacon grits". Like usual, I will volunteer to peel any leftover shrimp(please let there be leftovers) so we can have.........

Tim, has there been any confirmation that the cord of wood is seasoned or is it more like last year?

Everyone: Please note that this is a very effective method of volunteering.

Floridahanger: Thank you for volunteering to take on the responsibility of the firewood for FHV and forever more or until someone volunteers to take it over from you. Here are a few points to get you started:
    1. It's up to you to find someone. We had the best luck with Craigslist in the past.
    2. You'll have to tactfully convey to the prospective supplier that you know what a cord is (it's not a pickup full) and what you mean by "seasoned." If you come off like a know-it-all, they'll leave you hanging every time.
    3. Set delivery between 3 and 5 Wednesday. Be absolutely clear on the delivery time and location.
    4. Gumbo and I and some other organizers can be there to receive it if you can't. We'll need help stacking it.
    5. I'll pay cash at delivery. Do not pre-pay. Not even a deposit. That's a guaranteed disaster.

Thanks for taking this on. Getting firewood is the one job that has to come off precisely. There's no room for a backup plan and there's no alternative. And, as you observed, there's a lot that can go wrong. I'm confident you're up to the task.
Good luck. Let me know if you need anything.

One last thing: if the guy mentions he has a tree cutting service, you can bet the wood will be green.

    Thanks again,
    Timberrr

BTW: When you're the firewood-getter, you get first dibs on being the chief fire poker! ( new rule )
