There are plenty of trees in close for those who want to be close. There are trails that go around the lake with lots of more secluded hang spots. Rookies and Boots and Noobies, pay close attention: TREE STRAPS ARE ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED! No one will hang their hammock with line on the tree. If you are unsure about anything, don't hesitate anyone standing around for help. You'll find lots of folks who are eager to help.
One thing that makes this site unique are the hitching posts. Doe Lake is popular with the equestrian set so there are a lot of 6x6 hitching posts which are great for hanging. you can tie or clip whatever you want to them.
Of course, no nails or screws in anything.

    Thanks for checking!
    We're getting close!!
Follow up question will straps be required for the tarps as well or just the hammocks?

1" minimum tree straps for hammocks, none required for tarps. From post #701:

The national forests, state forests, and various other public lands that allow camping (water management areas, wildlife management areas, etc.) generally allow hammocks without issue, though the use of 1" tree straps is highly recommended to allow the rest of us to continue enjoying those lands. Private campgrounds are on a case-by-case basis (though I've yet to go to one that doesn't allow it once I've explained the tree straps and shown good land stewardship; they're in it for the money and can't afford to alienate potential customers who are at least nominally careful).

    Hope it helps!

I'm bummed I won't make it. My sister already grabbed up that time slot with the folks.
Any hangs near the area in March 14-21? That's when I'm coming down.

Also any truth to the fact that Florida State Parks require 2" straps? I have 1 1/2" but don't have 2"

I use 1" with no problem. If it becomes an issue, I can double wrap the straps.

**Edit** This is with National parks and some local parks in my area. Sorry to all, I have misread the "State Park" in the original post.

Please be responsible with our State Park hosts for this and future hangs. We hang with the good graces of Doe Lake and those that have spoken to them on our behalf.

The rules say two inch straps. If you have something else, then you do. Be discreet. And for goodness sake, don't flaunt it if you're shirking the rules. Especially on a public forum. Remember, we only just got the rules put through.
The host for Doe Lake (who lives on site in a giant RV - and will be there the entire time) originally said: no hammocks in the trees. Fortunately, he is a very reasonable person who's willing to listen, and after we gently got him up to speed on the matter, he's good with hammocks. But we obviously want to stay in his good graces. So be considerate and discreet.
It's okay to use tree straps for tarps but they are not required because tarps are not weight bearing and don't move.

Pirogue is complete. A few final touches done tonight and letting it sit for the night. A little wipe down and it will be delivered to FHV. It was too dark to take pictures. I didn't want anyone to see the inside of my garage so I'll try to take pictures tomorrow! Congratulations to the lucky winner!

Who will it be? What will you do with it? I can't wait to find out!
