Does anyone know what the drive time is from Yates to the Birkhead area?
I'm toying with options and mulling over a day hike up there.

Google is telling me something close to 40 minutes, that seems off to me.

What about the new extension to the Uwharrie trail? Is it, or will it be done by then?

looks like 40 minutes to me. I guess it would slightly depend on where in the birkheads. but I got 41, 48 minutes for the 2 sets of directions.

Now now, I'm just suggesting you might want to divide the spreadsheet up for meals. I've heard there was some good grub cooked last year. Want to give everybody a chance to sign up to show off there cooking skills this year right? I'm happy to do some cooking, and put in my 2 cents worth for some organization, but this is my first Yates hang. I have no idea what ya'll usually do.

As a Cubscout leader and senior Uwharrie hang specialist I officially nominate you food organizer. See in the cubscouts if someone raises there hand to ask a question, we take that as a sign they have what it takes to complete the job.

Honestly we have had a lot of help from some of the same people, and in each hang some new people. I have not yet been to a different hang, but this one is very laid back. Most of us are willing to do a great many things. In this case I feel that if we announce a direction and see if anyone objects, we can then just make it so. I have a lot going on and in a few weeks start back to school (6 classes 19 credits) I need all the help I can get. Its not in my nature to let it go unorganized so I will end up putting the work in to keep things together. If you would be so kind as to put together the food stuff I would appreciate it and I am sure everyone else would too.

That goes out to all that are willing to help btw.

This hang is not about what I want.

The spreadsheet is open to all to be fixed, to include what we need.

Ok, I'm happy to play with the signup sheet. I'm happy to bring some things, and to cook. I'm really happy to hear some suggestions and items folks want to cook. So I will do my best to guide this to a place where we're all fed.

Do you make a list of items folks can bring for others to cook up?

usually we would pick a theme or directions and let everyone else figure what they do best and can bring. for example we planned a group breakfast and people chimed in with; i will bring bacon (3 lbs), I will make and bring eggs, i can make hash browns and so on. Hopefully people know to bring/make enough for 10 or so people. Most of us have brought enough. We have never run out of food.

BTW regardless of the direction we go in, bonepile needs to bring bbq for every meal and Tallpaul (or the lovely Mrs. Tallpaul) is responsible for chocolate cake.
