Just Arrived! SNUGPAK JUNGLE BLANKET

I use the bag as my summer TQ (above 50F) and I like it. I'm on my 2nd year with it.

I purchased the blanket over the bag as I was looking for the smallest and lightest option. I rarely if ever will be in temps under 40-45 degrees. I also always bring my thermal base layer clothing and wool socks with me.

I used to use a sleeping bag and a pad for my HH. The pad attached to the outside of my Golite 70L pack. This year, I got a KAQ underquilt. When I added that to the inside of my bag, with the fairly large sleeping bag, together they took up a lot of room.

So I just experimented with my pack today and the new Snugpack Jungle Blanket. I can put the UQ in the lower sleeping bag section, and then my Jungle Blanket, HH, Python Straps, and Hexfly all fit on end side by side in the backpack on top of the UQ. I have so much room left over now, that I am cosidering getting a Golite Jam 50L pack to replace the 70L for summer hang'n.

Anyway, the Jungle Blanket packs down very, very small in my opinion.

I am only 5' 5', so the blanket covers very well. I may consider attaching some type of velcro or snaps to the bottom to create an optional foot box. But I will see how it goes first as my KAQ UQ covers the entire HH, I may not really need a foot box.

Just received mine. Looking it over, there are no care instructions. The hangtag directs to a website for care, which redirects to Proforce, which is very nearly unusable on a phone. Maddening. So. My question: does anyone know how to launder this blanket?

Per the site. Hand washing preferred.

Wash cold. No liquid detergent, powder only. Dry on tumble (no heat due to the DWR coating.)

Washing reduces loft.

Why powder? Less chance of a local concentration of detergent?

Depending on how this thing works out in terms of warmth, it might make an awesome uq. Snugpak claims it is wind proof and water resistant.

I've got 2 of their bags - the bug netting is a nice feature. I've gotten cold in them around 50-55* ground camping with a pad, but I tend to sleep very cold.

I can tell you the Jungle bag certainly isn't wind proof and as I believe the blanket is just a modified bag it stands to reason the blanket isn't windproof either.

I just tested mine in front of a window fan on high standing about 1 inch from the fan. The temp outside is 70 degrees with low humidity. It is not windproof. But it is pretty darn resistant.

It is warm weather gear. I think I will be ok as I use the large HH hex fly, and drop it almost to the ground like an a-frame tent if the wind is bad, plus I sleep in layers, etc. But I don't think it would be a good UQ for those who are thinking about it, unless you modified it somehow. I do think it will be better for me than a fleece blanket or my summer sleeping bag was.

You could possible get 2 of them, create some type of snap together system, and then maybe make a UQ out of them, but by the time you do all of that, just buy a Jarbridge UQ or better.
