A recent convert living in the desert -- Phx, AZ

    Hi, Hammockforums!

I've been an enthusiastic backpacker for years -- even got paid to do it for a time! -- but recently discovered hammock camping and haven't looked back. I dove in headfirst with a WBBB XLC (awaiting a Superfly in the mail, eee!) and can't even begin to describe the joy of waking up nestled in nylon, safe beneath bugnetting!

Though I've mostly been car camping of late (work and school forbids extended trips), my Blackbird hangs in my room for afternoon naps. Living in the desert has been a professional choice, and seems to limit my summer recreation (it's pretty hot!), but I'm looking forward to fall, and working at filling a niche to catapult me back to the paid outdoor industry.

Stay tuned! So glad to be joining you in these adventures!

    My best to you all,

    -- Beeip

Greeting Beeip. Nice way to jump into hammocks. I love AZ. As hot as it gets in PHX, at least you can get out of it by heading up 17 North.
We are now ready to start our way down the Great Unknown. We are three quarters of a mile in the depth of the earth. We have an unknown distance yet to run, an unknow river yet to explore. What falls there are, we know not; what rocks beset the channel, we know not; what walls rise over the river, we know not. Ah, well! We may conjecture many things. The men talk as cheerfully as ever; jests are bandied about freely this morning; but to me the cheer is somber and the jests are ghastly. Powell 1869

Hey Beeip. Welcome from a fellow Phoenician. Just returned from a 4 night car hammock camping trip. 2 nights in the White Mountains and 2 nights in the San Francisco Peaks. Plenty of great hang opportunities all over the Mogollon Rim. So nice and cool! Just a 2 hour drive to get to a superb hanging spot at the trailhead for the Inner Basin Trail. We, wife, two kids and I, had an absolute ball! Now, getting paid to hike and camp? Please let me know if you need an apprentice!
The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only paradise we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need, if only we had eyes to see.
