That's an excellent mod. Best bunk bed system I have seen in a tent. Beats those diagrams on the box of how to get 5 people in a 5 person tent. LOL
and yes cars with roof racks are just movable trees, that hitch on the back of a pickup truck can support a minimum of 2 hammocks.
I really like the ability to move the stand around inside the tent. You lose that if you run the suspension outside. There are stability feet for canes that might work as floor protectors if that is a concern. Or a few pieces of masonite sanded to remove sharp edges would work as well.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Who cares if you damage the floor? You don't have to sleep on it. ;^}
A lotta ins... lotta outs... lotta what-have-you's
I like this compromise of both worlds. Very family friendly. Unless your me. Then I too would get kicked out for snoring.
Funny thing is, I never hear the snoring. I think it's their imagination.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
Well I finally let my wife try the hammock and she said that she likes her Exped MegaMat 10 a bit better. A win for me, but heresy for a hammock site. Though I will admit that Exped is a really nice car camping ground pad.
hey that is awesome! can you post a more detailed pic of your stand so I can make one like it. My wife will be so happy that I will sleep in the tent with her and the kids now. lol
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
If I could just get a pic of the top of the tripod with the ridge pole and you told me what those tripods are made from and their length, I would be good to go. I am taking the family camping at Hunters Island this month. That would just be perfect.
Sure I could try and get some pics up tomorrow.
I'm not sure I can help much with measurements. I started with 6' long 1/2" EMT conduit for the legs and chain link top rail. But then I cut the top rail so that my ENO had the same sag as my ridge line normally gives. Then I cut the legs shorter until the hammock body was a good distance off the ground. Kind of cut to fit.

For the top of the tripod I got a large eye bolt and found a nut that just fit inside the conduit. I put two nuts in the eye bolt and used a 3lb hammer to encourage then to go in. You can barely see the nut in the second pic

I played with a bunch of connection methods but ended up using a shackle at the top. I just unscrew them and put the rope end of the ENO through so that the load from the hammock is on the shackle and not pulling on the end rail cap.

I made the tripod spreader limiters out of aluminum arrow shafts, cut in half. I lashed a small eye screw to the tripod leg to hold the line that runs through the shafts. I just pull the line tight and tie a knot. When packing up all the arrow shafts fit inside the fence top rail which is nice.
This isn't a stand you could jump around on or swing in but it has held up well so far. I still want to make some tweaks to get it to set up quicker bit for now it works and was fairly inexpensive.
