Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.
Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......
I can't believe BillyBob hasn't replied to this thread yet. He is the HH Super Shelter Guru....

I used the HHSS on my Explorer Deluxe for two years before I finally broke down and got an underquilt. I still keep the HHSS in case my wife decides to go camping with me...I can put it on my hammock, and loan her my underquilt.
I've used the HHSS (with the space blanket) along with a GI issue intermediate cold weather bag down to about 15 deg F, with some fairly strong winds as well.
Remember you can add additional insulation even beyond the underpad if you need to.
I think it works fine...at this point, I don't have any major preference between it and my underquilt.

Really appreciate the comments. I think I may give it a try. I have the monsoon tarp and I think with the SS I can make it through the fall and some cooler temps. Looks like the soonest I'm going to be able to get out is October. Planning for Dolly Sods, WV and the temps can get a bit chilly when the sun goes down.
I am with NEWTONGT and OWL, I sometimes use the same setup as Owl, I also have the overcover, I use that a lot even in the summer, it keeps the moisture from the ocean mist off.
As pointed out there are two sizes and original or side zip. Mine is the larger original, it fits both of my hammocks, it does not match up as well with the smaller hammock but works great with the other larger hammock.
I have been down into the lower 30's F, without discomfort. When I know it is going to be damp and windy I add a bit underneath, some people use two of Hennessy's underpads. I always use the space blanket as suggested by Hennessy. I have put other things under me to keep the cold from coming up. Even a step-upon-mat helps a surprising amount.
Love my SS, only downside is the condensation.
Has anyone tried replacing the pad with something like a down (or other highly compressible) sleeping bag to create something akin to an underquilt? I have the SS, but haven't had an opportunity to use it (yet). The pad seems quite bulky (not a problem when car camping, but not so good for hiking) and I was wondering if a swap like this is feasible, or if I'm just barking up the wrong tree.
LOL! Thanks guys! I must have been preoccupied! I started reading this old thread today trying to find my posts, but there are none!
You can put about anything down in the UC, though at some point it might be heavy enough to cause a sag and gap. But the opposite is usually more likely: At some spots in particular, the tension of the UC will compress super compressible stuff like 800FP down. The best thing I have found to add are the HH kidney and torso pads which give a big boost for very little money or weight,if they are still available. That and any clothing I am not sleeping in.
I actually find that pad will compress down quite small, but you do have to be extra careful not to tear it.
