I can't even get a good night's sleep in my king size bed with memory foam!

I don't think I ever slept more than 45min straight in my tent before waking-up and trying to find a more comfortable position. I've tried more than 10 different pads or combination of pads. Nothing I've done has come close to the comfort of a hammock. I placed a hammock stand in the master bedroom and I now sleep in a hammock every night (I got a wonderful/understanding wife!). To think that I might be able to sleep as well when backpacking as I do at home is my hope. I'll find out this weekend.

I sleep better on a hardwood floor than on memory foam. That doesn't mean I much like sleeping on floors. I have no idea how anyone has 1) come up with such a horrible material as memory foam 2) started selling it and 3) isn't in prison already.

Ok, maybe it's a personal quirk. But I too sleep much better in pretty much all hammocks than any bed I've ever tried.

Obviously it depends on the humidity and temperature, but condensation on the pad sounds to me like there's far too much insulation for a good night's sleep. But I guess the air around here is comparatively dry, and it's usually somewhere between cool to deathly cold at night, so what do I know...
