    DIY tablecloth rip failure

Anyone have any ideas as to why. It ripped at the gathered end. It is relatively new, as in made at Christmas. As I lay in it over the last few months, I could hear sounds like stretching and tearing. I kept looking to see what was happening and saw nothing. Today, I got in to read and heard it loudly and then looked and saw the rip. I only weigh 180. It was strung at a 30* angle. It all seemed good. I wonder if it was just a flaw in the cloth as I have made several in other colors and have not heard anything similar. Any ideas?

I hope I can still us it. I put a simple overhand knot just below the rip. Wish me luck. Seems to have been a flaw in material.

Seems like an odd place to rip. May be a flaw in the fabric or you got a small nick or tear that grew.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

Where did you get the tablecloth from? There have been a few failures lately, I'm curious if people are getting them from somewhere other than tableclothsfactory.com and maybe they aren't the same quality?

From the factory itself. Ordered a group as I made some for Christmas gifts for my scouts and friends. I am hoping that it was just a flaw as I just ordered 5 more as they were on sale for another 15% storewide. I have not tested the knot at the end to see if that will hold.

After discovering some flaws and holes a couple of times in the table clothes, I now check each piece thoroughly before I begin sewing. It is easy for this type of material to get snagged on the loom. I have only had a couple of flawed ones out of 50+ that I have ordered.

Same here, after about 30 I have had one failure that was due to abuse. I still check each piece of fabric thoroughly and remind folks to never hang higher than they are willing to fall.

My Scout troop has had two to fail like this. One was the result of being hung too tight and the other just ripped without any visable reason. I've got 100+ hangs on mine and never had a problem, so does my son and daughter. The torn hammocks have whipped ends.....could that have anything to do with it?
