    Suspension Strap?

I am considering making a suspension strap/tree hugger from a single length of 1" Polyester webbing. Basically I want to take a length, tie a loop on one end and then tie several over hand knot loops throughout to make it kid of like an "Atlas Strap" but homemade with no sewing and for much less in cost. I am not worried about weight. This is mostly for car camping and setting up for the day. I will use a carabiner on the hammock itself but have several loops tied in that I can use just like an Atlas Strap. I am thinking of making it about 10' long after the loop and knots are tied in.

    Thoughts or ideas?

knots lower the strength of rope and webbing by up to 50%. Get some crazy strong webbing if your going to use knots like that. Cost wise there are lots cheaper and safer options. My 0.02 cents

    Can you give any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Two descender rings used as a buckle system, like so:

Or, these buckles from Warbonnet Outdoors. They do the same thing, but are shaped differently. They are $10 for the set.

Or, the Dutch Buckle from Dutchware Gear. The blue cord is attached to the hammock, the red would be your strap. These are $14 for the pair.

If you don't mind tying and untying knots, you could just do the webbing around the tree as you planned and tie a knot on the carabiner. A slipped clove hitch or a girth hitch will hold just fine and are not hard to untie. I've used them in the past. The hassle is the adjustment but after you do it for a while you get the sense of how to set up your hammock. I posted in another thread about the same two hitches.

Your very welcome. Doing either method will also use much less webbing.

I do similar to this, but I use 2 independent links of chain. Works great, and is cheap!

This is one of the reasons hammocks are more fun than tents.
