Kayak/Canoe Trip down Wisconsin River/ Tent Camping on Sandbar AUGUST 16, 2014

Hey hangers! I am going on a 2nd annual canoe trip down the southern Wi river on August 16 and would like to extend the opportunity to you. The point of the trip is to chill, have fun, and drink gratuitously. If this is not your thing, then I would skip this one.
We will start at Trader's (http://www.tradersbarandgrill.biz) at 10:00 AM and then head down the river until we feel like stopping (2-4 hours) where we will stop to set up camp. The next day we will canoe another 2-4 hours and then be picked up by Trader's to return to our cars upriver. There is not much to hang on since we camp on a sandbar so a tent is pretty necessary. Bring plenty of water as dehydration is guaranteed. If you are interested in tagging along, you will be welcome. The ages range from 29-37 in the current group. Again, drinking is a major part of this trip. Let me know if you are interested.

Terry is awesome. I go to Traders every October! I recommend the Mazomanie run and there are plenty of large sandbars with small forests on them. Plus you canoe right back to your car so no problem if people want to leave earlier.

Thanks for the heads up McBlaster. I'll definitely be checking out the Mazomanie run.

No problem, here is the exact location of the put in. https://www.google.com/maps/place/10...f52c17!6m1!1e1

Now the river as shown here and the actual river you paddle are two different things. The river is alive and constantly changing, YMMV. And remember, only the islands and sand bars are for camping, never camp anywhere else, it's private property. We take several lazy days to do this run and spend 2 days and nights on the big island, near Muskrat Run, before heading back in. We walk across the river to the closest island/sandbar and get all the fire wood we need. Theres been several times very low flying aircraft have buzzed us and we've witnessed insanely huge flocks of Blue Herons, the ISS overhead and traces of the Northern Lights.

tent. Way too uncomfortable! Lol! Our trip from Gotham to Boscobel was outstanding. The river was much higher than this time last year and the current ran much swifter. The first day we had a nice wind from the east so we barely had to paddle. That caused a beer shortage the following day! :P

Have you had good luck finding hang spots? I make a few trips a year on the river but always use a tent. I am quite afraid of poison ivy and stay away from the forested areas on this river.

After being afflicted with poison ivy over a dozen times. I've gotten pretty good at identifying before I touch it these days.
