Video: Brother Bones on the Appalachian Trail: 2014 Part 2- Beginning NC

I head back out to work on the Appalachian Trail from Deep Gap to Fontana Dam. Things didn't work out the way I desired them to due to illness. I hate being sick and will be back again soon.

Nice video. I saw a couple of your videos before too and never put two and two together with the HF name. Let us know when you head back out. It should be a pretty tame Autumn from what I have experienced.

Enjoyed the video, sorry the bug got to you.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

It sure is great to be walking in thick forest and then having an extra fantastic view like that one. Super, extra, great and fantastic view from the fire tower! Good to see you got up nice and early on day two. Disappointing end with you getting a bug form the taxi driver and all. Thanks for the walk along the great AT! I was thinking... If I watch enough trip reports from the AT, I will "video hike" the whole trail.

I will let the forums know. I'm hoping that the weather is nice and crisp out this autumn.

I hope that I can offer something like that. A video thru hike has great potential for people like my uncle who is a paraplegic. It was a disappointing end and I pick on my mom about it, but it won't keep me down. The views were great and supposed to just get better for the next stretch. I'm looking forward to that for sure.

Thank you. I really liked Albert Mountain. It is beautiful there. I'm better now and hope to be out soon, but school starts up tomorrow.

    I really enjoyed the video.
Loved the first unexpected views at 4:55 and the ones from the tower.

Sorry to hear about the bug. Looks like you need to adopt the thru hiker way of no physical contact to avoid these bugs

I am curious on your approach to mileage and your goals for the day.
Do you wake up and set your goal for the day on where you'd like to end up? Or do you wait till a lunch break then nail it down?
Do you set a time each day you'd like to be done by (say 630) so you have time to decompress?
Or is it all still a work in progress?

So sorry you got sick on the trail but you need to know what an encouragement you are to me in that.

I attempted a section hike back in May and cut it short because of time/mileage constraints and severe hip pain. I was very sad about that but knowing you made a similar decision for similar reasons of safety and prudence gives me a better understanding that I did the right thing and it's not a reflection of me as a whole. Just a bad few days on the trails (so to speak) and not the end of the world or of the hiking dream.

Be encouraged and blessings for your next outing.
